The Everly Brothers - 2002 Inductees

Close Harmony Duo, Rock-n-Roll, Country, Pop Recording Artists, Songwriters. The Everly Brothers began performing at ages eight and six with their musical parents, Ike and Margaret Everly. On their own after high school, Phil & Don, as a duo, hit the Top 10 singles chart 15 times and sold more than 35 million records in the first five years of their career.

Their first hit Bye-Bye Love, reached number one on the country charts in less than a month and remained in the Top 10 for six months to become their first Gold record. They were the first members of the Grand Ole Opry to simultaneously have a Top 10 recording in the Country, Pop, and Rhythm & Blues charts. Bye-Bye Love and All I Have To Do Is Dream are identified by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as two of “500 songs that shaped Rock and Roll.” They were the first act in music history to sign a $1 million recording contract, with Warner Brothers, where they recorded Cathy’s Clown, their biggest hit, selling more than 2 million copies.

A total of 32 Everly Brothers singles made it on the Billboard charts during the course of their career. In 1986, they were among the first inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and were also awarded a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
