Console Television, Model 2U172L Run 2, Magnavox, circa 1960
The company Magnavox built its first prototype unit that included a record player and an AM/FM radio in 1947, followed by its first TV in 1948. The TV was meant to be a companion piece to the radio-record player units, and the first television set produced by the company was in July 1950. This television and hi-fi console has a 19” TV screen and a 16-78 RPM turntable on the right side, accessible by sliding a Formica panel. The cabinet is wood with a cherry finish, with a cane weave center panel for the speaker. The turntable compartment contains a 45 RPM adapter and a black storage tube for the same at the back. This particular console was discovered on the curb for trash pick up by the donor in the Milwood neighborhood around 2002.
