Settee, circa 1870
Settees or sofas like this were seating options for two or more people. In this example, the frame is made of mahogany and mahogany veneer, and red plush upholstery covers the seats, the side and back reinforced with a stiff cloth backing. The Peck and Connable families of Kalamazoo are connected to this piece. The Peck family in particular has a long history with the museum, with Horace M. Peck donating the collection of shells, corals and minerals that founded the museum in 1881.
