Permanent Wave Machine, circa 1937
This Silver Queen Model 400 permanent wave machine, found in a home on East Walnut Street in Kalamazoo, was made by the Gabrieleen Company, Inc., of Chicago, IL. Wave machines were introduced to American beauty parlors in 1905. Machines such as the one on exhibit here would slowly be replaced in the 1930s when hot rollers and cold permanents became the go-to for curls.
