The artwork in this exhibit Treasures of Ventura County tells the historic stories of Ventura County landmarks through the eyes of artists. Painting “en Plein Air”, is a French term for painting “in the Open Air.” Instead of staying in the studio to paint, the artists take their supplies with them to paint the landscape from life. Led by Laura Jespersen, the artists of “Plein Air of Ventura County” (or PAVC for short) is a meet-up group to paint on location.
Over 16 months, 35 Artists from their group visited 118 Ventura County or National landmarks to create a large collection of paintings, of which 177 were selected for this show. Some landmarks were painted from photographs back in their studio, if it wasn’t safe to stand on the side of the highway, for example.
Let's START in sunken area of Main Plaza Floor 2, looking toward Board of Supervisors’ wall to see the paintings of Simi Valley.
