Feel free to share photos from your tour using the hashtag Ventura County R. M. A. and we’ll share them on our social media.
The artwork in this exhibit tells the historic stories of Ventura County landmarks through the eyes of artists. Painting “en PLEHN Air”, is a French term for painting “in the Open Air.” Instead of staying in the studio to paint, the artists take their supplies with them to paint the landscape from life. Led by Laura Jespersen, the artists of “PLEHN Air Ventura County” is a meet-up group to paint on location. You can find them on Facebook and Instagram.
Over 16 months, 35 Artists from their group visited 118 Ventura County, or National landmarks, to create a large collection of paintings, of which 177 were selected for this show. Some landmarks were painted from photographs back in their studio, if it wasn’t safe to stand on the side of the highway, for example.
Let's START in the sunken area of Main Plaza Floor 2, looking toward the Board of Supervisors’ wall, to see the paintings of Simi Valley.
