Just steps from SCE are our famous Quad and Lecture Centers. The UIC Quad is an open area in the middle of the East Campus. It is home to the annual Student Involvement Fair, a campus wide event introducing students to campus organizations.
The Student Involvement Fair in the Quad is one of my most anticipated UIC events for a lot of reasons. UIC has a bunch of clubs and organizations that set up booths around the Quad and the lecture centers. It is really fun for me to walk around and say hello to people I know, win some free items, check out any new organizations, and even help out at my club’s booth, Peer Health Exchange. Mainly though, I love the free funnel cake and popcorn you can get!
Originally inspired by ancient Greek architecture, The Circle Forum stood as a classical amphitheater. UIC is considered a popular choice for film/tv as the amphitheater/East Campus was featured in the movies, “Candyman” and “Stranger Than Fiction.” Shows such as “Chicago P.D.”, “Chicago Fire”, “ER” and “Hill Street Blues” have been filmed at the UIC Police Station, the hospital and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Famously known as the first UIC cultural center in 1976, the Rafael Cintron Ortiz Latino Cultural Center serves as a resource for UIC's growing Latinx student population.
The quad is a perfect place to enjoy the fresh outdoors, so make sure to take a moment to soak in the student life here on campus!
