At the heart of the UIC East Campus is one of our favorite buildings, Student Center East (also known as SCE) because it includes so many student amenities!
Student Center East (Formerly Chicago Circle Center) is the 5th largest student union in the world. When combined with Student Center West (our other campus in the Illinois Medical District), the UIC Student Centers are the 3rd largest in the world.
SCE is home to the Center for Student Involvement, Commuter Resource Center, and Wellness Center. It also serves as the hub of student life and includes amenities such as an Amazon store, UIC Bookstore, convenience store, food court, bank, and large meeting spaces.
My favorite lounge space in SCE is the 1st Floor Circle Lounge, located just below the Montgomery Ward Lounge. I spend a lot of my time in the Circle Lounge between classes, just hanging out with my friends, catching up on class work or group projects, or eating a quick lunch that I just bought. It is always a lively, talkative space, with a great energetic atmosphere to pick me up during long days.
To showcase the campus being affiliated with the University of Illinois system Netsch designed the windows in the classroom buildings (i.e. Stevenson) to form a “Block I” which is also seen in the design of the floor tile in Student Center East.
At the end of the tour, this is a great place to get a bite to eat or soak up the vibrant student life!
