Welcome to our next stop and one of our newest buildings on campus, the Academic and Residential Complex (the ARC)!
The 10-story building provides residential accommodations for approximately 550 students in a traditional and semi-suite style environment.
ARC is his LEED Gold-certified which demonstrates UIC’s commitment towards becoming a sustainable campus. This innovative building includes a fitness center, multiple social and gaming lounges, study lounges on each floor, lecture halls and classrooms, and a tenth-floor sky lounge.
I have had a couple classes inside this building and let me tell you it feels like a model UN. The students are positioned in a “U” shape around the lecturer with each student having their own microphone. Whenever the teacher calls on you or you have something to contribute students can simply use the microphone and your voice is cast through the whole lecture hall! It can be a bit intimidating, but quite cool in my opinion.
As a whole, UIC Campus Housing operates 8 residence halls and 27 different room types throughout the East and West campus.
Approximately ⅓ of our freshmen class lives on campus, so there are plenty of ways to meet new people, be a part of the UIC community, and many different options to live on campus! But at UIC, it’s not a requirement to live on campus. You can choose whatever situation works best for you.
