This metal clad commercial building stood on Main Street near the present day Fire Hall. A.J. Sly, who ran the store until 1916, is shown here holding the horse while his merchandise is displayed on the sidewalk, including chairs, screen doors, an ironing board, iron bed, washing machine and a child's captain chair. His sign is not yet on the building and is beside the merchandise and reads, "A.J. Sly Furniture and Undertaking".
This seems today to be an interesting combination of services provided in one building but during the early days of the villages many of its business people provided a multitude of products and services to local residents.
A.J. Sly later moved to the Lansdowne area and Wellington Willis took over the store. The building was unfortunately destroyed by the big fire in 1939.
