George Cheetham's Blacksmith Shop
This shop was located on the west side of Bracken Street near Stanton Street. The men in the photo appear to be sharpening an axe on a treadle grindstone. The sheet iron cutout of a horse, seen on top of the gable, was the universal trade sign of blacksmiths. Also on the gable is the shadow of an elevated water tank, presumable a fire precaution.
This building later was the stage barn and still later, when motorized vehicles replaced the stage coach, it became the bus garage for ed Putnam who owned and operated 2 buses for transportaion to Kingston and Gananoque. This building, like many of the buildings in Seeley's Bay, was destroyed by fire in 1939.
