Pulpit

The Pulpit

The pulpit is used for the sermon. The sermon is a special part of a service when someone explains the Bible reading or story we heard from the lectern.

The four carved statues on the front of the pulpit are Saint Matthew, Saint Mark, Saint Luke and Saint John. They wrote the gospels, the books in the Bible which tell us about the life of Jesus. Some of you might know this old rhyme:

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Bless the bed that I lie on.

If you have an adult with you, you can walk carefully up the stairs and look into the nave just like the person who gives the sermon in our services.

Go back past the lectern and stop in front of the brightly-coloured curtains.
