Sorrel

The Old Sorrel - 158-160 North Main Street

Now private residences, it was formerly an inn.  Around 1803, the post office was also located at this site.  We are not sure when it was built but we know it was prior to 1803 and stands as one of the oldest 13 buildings in town.  It had its own springhouse.

Several former occupants were born here and one of those, Mr. Ernest Baker, recalls a small poster in the "cellar" near the old mahogany bar which stated the stage(coach) left once a week for Conowingo, Rising Sun, etc.

One side (#160) of this house was a bake shop that utilized the old oven and used a showcase window on the front to highlight their goods.  The window was torn away around 1970.

Here is a fun link to share, of a music video shot right here in Port Deposit by Gary Moore and Albert Collins in 1990, starting and finishing at the Old Sorrel...

Enjoy!
