Laura Grossett - "Growing, Unfolding" and "Experiment of Green"

Hi, my name is Laura Grossett and I am a printmaker in Northern Colorado. I teach printmaking at Front Range Community College in Fort Collins and host workshops out of The Beet Printmaking studio in Loveland.

My recent work investigates themes of growth, expansion, and fertility. During the past three years I have developed a deeper appreciation for being immersed in nature and that has been influential in my desire to use plants as subject matter- a thread that weaves throughout my past work. I have also been playing with what is seen and unseen- what is hidden and what is revealed. I delight in the experience of looking and investigating, of not knowing everything, and the anticipation of finding.

I’ve been exploring different ways a print matrix can be repurposed or reconfigured. My work in this show comes from etched copper plates that were then hand-colored using watercolor and acrylic. In the scroll book the plate was printed twice and the resulting print cut in half. Then all the segments were attached end to end and folded to create the ziggurat. For the crown fold book I used an older print that I pulled years ago and cut out the sections I wanted to use. These were attached to vellum and fitted into top and bottom folds of the spine.
