Tenia Renee Nelson - "Oh What A Beauty"

Hello My Name is Tenia Nelson and I am an pianist, percussionist, educator, composer and arranger from Denver, Colorado. I would love to tell you about my creative process on the song that I composed, Oh What A Beauty.

I composed the melody as I was walking on the Highline Canal Trail, which is about 2 minutes walking distance from my home. As soon as I had the melody in mind I started experimenting with various harmonies that would work with the melody. The composition is as follows:

*The composition is in Bb Major and in 4/4 time and is a medium swing tempo *There is a rubato piano intro

* After the piano intro the piano and bass(Brendan O’ Donoghue) plays the form(AABA) of the composition. The A sections are 16 measures long and the B section is 8 measures. * After the musicians play the melody the pianist and the bassist improvises over the form once. *After this is done the musicians play the melody again with taking the Coda(the ending of the song)

I hope you enjoyed learning more about my composition and I hope you have a great day, Thank you
