Our last stop on the tour is the Joinerville Feed and Seed. It houses this gristmill that was used in Kilgore in the 1930s.
A farmer could bring his corn to the miller, and have his corn ground. The farmer would pay for the service by giving some of the ground corn to the miller. So, it the miller ground 8 bags of corn ground; the miller keeps 1 to sell and gives 7 back to the farmer free of a monetary charge.
If the community did not have a grist mill, the family would have to grind their cornmeal using a mortar and pestle.
