In the front window, you will see many photos of oilwell fires. Oilfield work was extremely dangerous not only because of potential accidents but also because of the risk of fire.
Next to this window, you will find a cold drink box. This was once located outside a gas station in Henderson, Texas! Blocks of ice would cool the bottled drinks held within. Coldwater was piped through the ice to provide a cool drink from the fountain on the side.
Now take a look at the gasoline pumps. These are called visible gas pumps. The gas would fill up the cylinder and it flowed down due to gravity into the automobile's gas tank via the hose. The gas tank on this 1930 Model A. Ford Sedan is on the hood.
The numbers in the cylinder are gallons. The reverse order records the gallons drained out and into the car's tank. The customer pays the attendant for this amount.
If the mood strikes, feel free to have a friendly game of checkers and relax on the porch of the gas station before heading inside through the screen door.
