The portrait is Daisy Miller Bradford. Her farm was the location of the first well of the East Texas Oil Field. The drill stem test was on September 5, 1930. The well came in on October 3, 1930.
She was a widow running the nearly 1000-acre farm where that monumental event happened. It is located in what is called Joinerville today. The items within the case below her portrait belonged to her. Note the stock certificates and the letters and poetry by "Dad" Joiner.
One of the letters dated July 1, 1929, says, "Our fathers rode in an ox cart and thought it was fine. You and I ride in automobiles and airplanes because someone has a vision for better things. Are you going to continue to dig, dig in the cotton field; or are you going to visualize for big things and help to open a big oil well on the Overton Anticline upon which Joiner Well #3 is being drilled?"
