Mrs. Sarah Spencer Morgan's Bedroom

Sarah Morgan's bedroom has been designed to look the most like it would have in the Gilded Age compared to other rooms in the house.

While no original furniture or photos remain in the "his-and-her" Master bedroom suites, we do have a copy of two family inventories -- one done in 1896 when Sarah passed away and the other in 1911 when George passed away. We have been able to use this inventory as the inspiration for how Sarah’s room is currently set up. We continue to add furnishings to rooms in the house as we are able to locate pieces that replicate what would have been here based on the family inventory.

Set designer Carl Sprague, who has made sets for period movies, was asked to design Sarah's bedroom in 2011 for the Berkshire Designer Showcase held here and was able to use the family inventory as his main reference point. Note Sarah’s monogram on the left blanket cover, given to us by the Morgan family.

The wallpaper in this room is a recreation of the original. When you enter Sarah's bathroom, you will see an original copy of the wallpaper on the wall protected by plexiglass. There is a photograph above the sink of Sarah's bathroom from the Gilded Age. It is one of very few photos taken on the second floor during the Morgan family's time at Ventfort Hall.

After going through Sarah's bathroom, take a right and enter the Green Room.
