In 1947, the Opera House was renovated, then reopened as the Colonial Movie Theater. A movie screen was permanently installed on the stage just behind the front curtains. The drop ceiling mostly concealed the upper balcony, and a projection booth was constructed. Just recently, the SORG group removed the projection booth, exposing the projectors that still reside in the furthest heights of the balcony. A marquee, topped with the word “Colonial” in glowing letters, was also installed. This is the same marquee that is on the front of the building today, though it has been renovated in recent years, including the removal of the “Colonial” name.
