The maintenance offices were originally the designated homes of the maintenance and masonic superintendents. Prior to 1956 the superintendent and his family occupied five rooms in Van Brunt Hall. The first ranch style house freed up much needed space in Van Brunt Hall for residents, and the floor plan included four bedrooms, one and one-half bath, living/dining area, and a full kitchen (the building cost $489,000 in 2023 dollars).
In 1972 the maintenance superintendent was moved from the employee dormitory to the second newly built house (the building cost $220,000 in 2023 dollars). Around 1990 the houses were converted into the "Cottage in the Woods" (housing available for rent by guests of residents) and a training center/convention hall. Finally, in 1994 these buildings were converted into our current maintenance offices.
