The pumping station was created between 1922-1923. The space is an enclosed natural spring. The original spring was named Ajalon after a valley near Jerusalem mentioned in the Bible (Joshua 10:12) where Joshua commanded the moon to stand still. In the summer heat of the 1890’s the spring became the center of attraction for a resort that was operated by the Van Brunt family. The pumping station ceased operations in 1980 when the Village of Dousman began supplying water. When the site was operational, the spring provided 15,000 gallons of water a day to the Masonic home, hospital, and farm.
