I now encourage you to explore the other parts of the fort such as the bastions and galleries. and imagine being stationed here in the fort possibly in the Civil War as a Union or Confederate soldier, or maybe in the Spanish-American War, you may have been here as a communication specialist during World War 2 or maybe in the Colored Regiment. Up to 3000 soldiers were stationed here on the island at one time. Harriet Tubman visited the island and General Lee's son was an engineer here as well. As you explore the beaches, think of the many soldiers that have camped these beaches over the years.
