Constructed from 1863 to 1867, the barracks were built of New York and Pennsylvania red brick along with the New Hampshire Granite. Cast Iron can be seen from behind the barracks later on the tour, but the cast iron provided support beams and columns. A porch was built on the back of the building on the first level and a veranda graced the second story. Two iron tanks were built into the attic space to store rainwater for drinking.
The barracks were designed to hold 150 soldiers and were divided into separate rooms. Sergeants were given a private room, while corporals were quartered together. Privates were housed on the second story. this building housed soldiers during the Civil War, Spanish-American War, and World War 2.
Behind the barracks are the bakery, blacksmith, and farrier.
