Foundations and Inner East Wall

As you approach the inside of the east wall you will notice the foundation of a building. In 1863, the engineers had laid a three-and-a-half-foot tabby foundation for the officers' quarters. It was planned to be three stories tall, with offices and sitting rooms on the second and third levels. Construction was halted in 1864, leaving only the foundation and a small section of the walls.
