Crossing the grounds and passing the flagpole, you approach the storehouse. The storehouse building was constructed from 1858 to 1867. With the start of the Civil War, construction halted with only the first story constructed. In 1862, work continued on the building. Eleven rooms were provided for commissary and quartermaster stores. A sutler's shop sold items to the soldiers not provided by the Army. And a dispensary provided basic medical care.
Behind the storehouse is the lumber shed and Carpentry Shop. The carpentry shop was built from 1856 to 1869 allowing for the construction of wooden products, including tables, benches, shelving, bunks, doors, windows, gun racks, and many other items. The lumber was a mixture of oak, cypress, pine, cedar, ash, and hickory.
