The Billiard Room consists of dark oak wood paneling, stained glass windows on three sides, and an original yellow Siena marble fireplace. The original pieces of the fireplace were put back together. Two pieces of imported Italian Renaissance carving are set into the massive doorway, as are the two twisted wood columns in the fireplace. The entire doorway is Italian -- note on the bottom of the left panel the notation “ANNO 1 6 3 0”
Originally, a large billiard table would have sat in the middle of this room. In the Gilded Age, this was where the men would retreat at the end of the night to relax, smoke cigars, and socialize with one another.
Through the windows in the left corner, you can see a brick-walled area. It was beyond that walled area where the formal greenhouses were, and where Sarah's husband George would spend much of his time.
The door in the corner leads to the back garden door of the house as well as our modern day two-floor platform lift, which offers accessibility up to the second floor.
