Title: Blow-molded plastic oversized human tooth
In addition to running Preservation Dental, a successful practice in downtown Northville, Dr. William Demray is also an accomplished artist having had several photography retrospectives and won awards for his work. In 2016, as part of Northville Art Week, Dr. Demray made his vision of recreating a 1920s Prohibition-era photograph of alcohol pouring out of a second floor building out of teeth a reality. This oversized human tooth, commissioned by Dr. Demray from a Michigan blow-molding company, is one of over 4,000 that composed the Tooth Fall installation (image at top right). The grooves are hand-painted on each tooth and they had to be individually drilled to be attached to the metal framework of the installation.
In 2021, Dr. Demray used these teeth to install a popular holiday display (referred to by Preservation Dental as the “Tree of Teeth”) composed of over 1,000 oversized teeth from the Tooth Fall arranged into a 16 feet tall Christmas tree topped with an adult sized female tooth fairy.
