Marian Spore Bush (1878-1946) held a dental practice in her hometown of Bay City from 1901-1919. After the death of her mother, she was inspired artistically by spirits who guided her with visions of the future. She stopped her work in dentistry and relocated to New York City. Deemed a "psychic artist" who was validated in her abilities by contemporaries including Harry Houdini, Bush struggled to gain praise and notoriety in her lifetime. Her artistic works have been interpreted as foretelling such events as WWII and the 9/11 attack. There has been a recent resurgence in the visibility and popularity with her art-work featured in the recent "Supernatural America" exhibit at the Toledo Museum of Art as well as a future UMMA exhibition.
