Wood carving - “Silver Fox Legacy Tree”

Wood sculpture from Bradford Pear

This sculpture, pierced, carved, sculpted, and finished using a dental drill and burs, was made in a month in honor of Dr. Louis J. Schultz, fondly called the ‘Silver Fox’, by his admiring clinical dental students. Dr. Livernois was the first recipient of the Louis J Schultz Award for Operative Dentistry in 1971. In Dr. Livernois’ words, in “keeping with using proper hand skills, [I] continue to do artistic “ cavity preps “ 51 years later” as he makes the analogy between dental filling techniques and the skills of a woodturner he developed to produce this work.
