The Dining Room

As you enter the Dining Room, you’ll notice our portraits of Sarah Spencer Morgan on the left and her husband George Hale Morgan on the right. Closer to the fireplace is a portrait of Sarah’s father, Junius Spencer Morgan.

Originally, the walls and ceiling were finished with Cuban mahogany. The bay window and first section of the ceiling by the pocket door are original Cuban Mahogany; the rest of the ceiling has been restored using Honduran mahogany. The pocket doors are oak on the Great Hall side and mahogany on the Dining Room side. The fireplace woodwork is half original and half new. The new marble is from Vermont -- all of the original Italian marble was stripped with only one small sample piece left behind.

A photo of the dining room in the Morgans’ day is on display in this room. It was only in 2017 when the Morgan family sent us a collection of photos, including this one of the dining room, that we had never seen before. This was our first glimpse into the Morgans' dining room as we had not uncovered any others yet
