My name is Anne Feller, and I am the artist behind the piece titled Grasping. This piece depicts a series of hands surrounded by a textured dark substance seemingly oozing out of their grip. Each hand is in reference to a family picture of an adult holding a child. Memories of these grips are overlapped and embedded into wax as a process of preservation. These moments of bonding in childhood are stripped of their intimacy in the absence of the depiction of the children. As the hands are left grasping at an unknown substance, absence, loss, and longing take focus instead.
