I guest lecture typography 101 msu, focusing on graffiti in context. I created this as a teaching aid to help show the process of creating a graffiti italicized letter. This font family was quite fun to draw, growing up painting graffiti in chicago it made me feel nostalgic. There are 35 different artists, many from chicago, mostly from the US, a few from Europe. Graffiti was a window to opening my understanding of the art world, design, color theory, typography, when I was in college, so it interesting to be apart of the loop; growing up, seeing these letters made in person, to now be recreating them for students learning typography today.
This is just a small part of my larger drawing practice. This font family is just one of multiple font family’s I’ve created.. I try to draw everyday, as a therapeutic daily practice. Sometimes it feels good and it brings me to a place, a moment in time, a person. Other times it’s hard to find the focus and it feels like bitter medicine, but I always feel better after and it provides clarity and patience in other aspects of my life.
