Shastriji Maharaj, who lived from 1865 to 1951, was the third spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. A profound scholar of Sanskrit and the scriptures, he was a magnetic orator, responsible for bringing to the fore the teachings of Bhagwan Swaminarayan.
Despite the hardships prevalent at the time, he built five traditional mandirs to realise the ideal worship of Akshar and Purushottam, or God along with his ideal devotee.
In 1907, he formally established BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, the worldwide Hindu organisation responsible for the building and running of this Mandir.
