On the left of Bhagwan Swaminarayan stands an image of Gopalanand Swami. He was a senior disciple and renowned scholar of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, and is recognised as aksharmukta – a liberated soul.
At a young age he had mastered Ashtang Yoga, the complete eight steps of Yoga that culminates in God-realisation. His open palm gesture is known as the varad mudra. It signifies the offering of prayers.
