After Gunatitanand Swami, whom we saw in the central shrine, the second spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan was Bhagatji Maharaj. He lived from the year 1829 to 1897.
Often shunned and insulted by the ignorant, his intense desire to worship God endeared him to many.
He lived a life of tremendous endeavour and unfailing faith according to the wishes of his guru Gunatitanand Swami.
His saintly virtues and spiritual enlightenment singled him out as successor to Gunatitanand Swami even though he wasn’t a saffron-clad monk and despite his lower social status.
