Lawren Alice

Welcome to the Tiny Room for Elephants Festival Audio Tour, presented by Love and Grit, a podcast from Visit Philadelphia that explores the authentic and diverse stories of the city.

The work you are viewing is by artist Lawren Alice.

This work is inspired by all different pattern motifs from around the world.

When asked, what does the phrase “made with love, inspired by grit” mean to your creative process, the artist responded: “I think a really important thing to note is that all of the artists here are part of TRFE for the love of the art. Speaking only for myself, I know I do it because I love these people, and I love their art, and I love this city. That's the love part. The grit part is just a nice locally trending adjective that applies to the city as a whole and how you have to be to survive and thrive here. If you don't embrace the grit, you're probably not cut out for this city.”
