Welcome to the Tiny Room for Elephants Festival Audio Tour, presented by Love and Grit, a podcast from Visit Philadelphia that explores the authentic and diverse stories of the city.
The work you are viewing is by artist Ed Marion.
The simple pineapple flocked by dancing crowns (coronas) in a time of pandemic is a reminder to try to remain open and welcoming in a time of fear.
When asked, what does the phrase “made with love, inspired by grit” mean to your creative process, the artist responded: ““Made with Love” is old news to me. Grit is just assumed. When I painted my pizza box portrait project in 2018-2019, painting 59 friends, strangers, (and myself), I inked each pizza box with the tag, “made with love in philadelphia.” How else to make art? It has to resonate with you first, born in your heart, for it to have a chance to inspire others. So, yeah, made with love + grit is a given, a necessity.”
