LAMI TOLLA

Welcome to the Tiny Room for Elephants Festival Audio Tour, presented by Love and Grit, a podcast from Visit Philadelphia that explores the authentic and diverse stories of the city.

The work you are viewing is by artist LAMI TOLLA.

This work is inspired by being free and fully expressive through the characters called GHULS. Moving to Philadelphia, the artist  was exposed to an overwhelming amount of graffiti. This inspired the transition of their art from canvas to the street. After a year of playing around with different mediums and styles, the characters called GHULS were born.

When asked, what does the phrase “made with love, inspired by grit” mean to your creative process, the artist responded: “"made with love, inspired by grit" to me, means pushing boundaries with any medium of your choice it means creating conversations about our communities and the world we live in. My art is a protest, Rage  and a manifestation of what I love doing and the impact I want to make locally and globally.”
