The Four Seasons Garden is designed to feature plants with some desirable characteristics in one of the four seasons, with colorful fall leaf changes, bright plant branches, and an evergreen presence.
All plants photosynthesize, but not necessarily in all four seasons. Photosynthesis is a process in which plants take sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide and make energy from them. In order to do this they must have leaves, so although evergreens photosynthesize in the winter, deciduous trees (ones that lose their leaves) do not.
Behind the Four Season's Garden are two southern magnolia trees. These are unique evergreen trees since their leaves are not needles. Notice their shiny deep green color in this winter season.
