Cottage and Bird Feeders

This cottage was the first structure built on the grounds. It was originally used as a storage shed. In 2013, it was moved across the bridge to the south, and turned into an educational space. It is used for educational events and it is home to our insectarium, where butterfly nannies raise our butterflies. We also rent it out for birthday parties, picnic lunches, and small events.

In front of the cottage you will find a sign about gardening for pollinators. Do you grow flowers at your home for pollinators?

If you turn south and face the creek, you will see our bird feeders. From this distance you may not see well, but you are far enough away to not scare the birds. Walk slowly towards the feeders and see how close you can get to the feeding birds. Winter is a great time for bird watching, since the leaves don't obstruct your view. Also, many northern birds winter over in the Ozarks, or pass through during migration.

Near the bird feeders is a small kiosk with bird scavenger hunt booklets. Feel free to take a booklet and try to find all the birds featured in it. While you are in the area, you may also want to visit the bird blind which is located on the lake on the Fayetteville dirt trail, outside the garden's perimeter. A map on how to get to the bird blind can be found on the back on the bird booklet in the kiosk.
