Ghost Garden Sculptures

Growing tomatoes is more than just a gardening activity for me. It's an integral part of my art and community building practice. This small installation features some of the plants I'll be selling at my annual tomato sale. Every year I grow about 7,000 plants and offer them to the public. I'm bringing the tomato truck here on May 10th for anyone in need of organic plants.

For over 18 years, my friend and tomato partner, Carolyn Jansen, and I have been growing and selling plants, a tradition that has allowed me to reconnect with my roots in a very personal way. I often find these moments of cultivation to be deeply Zen, a grounding experience that enriches both my creative process and my sense of community. Alongside the tomato plants, I'm showcasing some of my plexiglass cutout sculptures from the Casting Ghosts series.

The objects cast vibrant, colorful shadows that shift with the sun, symbolizing the memories and moments that leave a lasting impact on a person's life. This blending of nature, art, and memory feels like a perfect representation of how our personal histories grow and evolve, much like the tomatoes themselves.
