Willard Dow and his wife Martha can be seen in the middle picture on top of the book case. His father, Herbert, is to his left and Willard's son, Herbert Dow II to his right.
As the oldest son, Willard was groomed from an early age to take over as president of the Dow Chemical Company and, after his father's passing in 1930, he did just that. He saw the Company through the Great Depression and World War II. Then, in 1949 he and Martha boarded a plan for Boston. His son was attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Unfortunately, the plane crashed and neither Willard nor Martha survived the accident.
