Marc Séguin was born in Ottawa on March 20, 1970. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University and currently lives and works in both Montreal and New York. In 1996, his first individual exhibition presented large- scale paintings with astonishing plastic proposals. This exhibition attracts the attention of critics and collectors: his career is launched!

A gifted engraver as well as a prolific painter, Marc Séguin saw his work recognized by the curators of the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal in 1997 when they included it in the now famous group exhibition, De fougue et de passion. He was then invited to present a personal exhibition there in 2000: a series of large paintings on the theme of the medieval rose window.

This exhibition was then presented in France, at the Canadian Cultural Center in Paris, during the summer of 2001, then traveled to various Canadian cities in 2003.

H-Anima is the name that Marc Séguin gave to this work which represents a metallic tree whose leaves sway in the wind. H for Humaniti and Anima for the breath of life. What you see outside the bronze foundry are the branches and foliage of a tree, made with 2000 aluminum panels painted in all sorts of colors, swaying like leaves in the wind. This structure fits on a real tree trunk cast in bronze and is therefore indestructible. It measures 32 feet high, above a blade of black water at ground level. Funded entirely by Cogir, Marc Séguin had carte blanche for the design of the work. According to the artist, it is a part of the Humaniti real estate project.
