Nathan Dominik - "A Wave Construction"

My name is Nathan Dominik, a one sheet exhibition using laminated birch plywood was something I am accustomed to.  As a sculptor my main medium is wood and lamination is the driving force of my work.   I had numerous ideas in mind for this project so choosing one was difficult but this piece allowed me to showcase my process and style the most.  I had to build this in layers, stage by stage, knowing once I laminated the next platform, my supports would be locked into their correct orientation.  Each support had to be hand carved and sanded to a fine degree because again they would be hard to work on once glued into its stage.  The title being “a wave construction” is fitting for the look and the process.  My laminated work and technique follow an idea of progression. The wave shape for me carries a feeling of a repeating process building up only to crash down and be built again, then repeat the process while making progress along the way.  Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Nathan Dominik
