Monica Lovinescu develops a passion for theatre and starts directing her first shows. In 1947, she receives one of the last scholarships from the French government and goes to Paris to continue her studies. There she meets many intellectuals and artists, staging avant-garde performances. But the situation in Romania deteriorates with the proclamation of the Romanian People's Republic, and Monica Lovinescu worries about her mother, who has remained in Bucharest.
