Abel A. Berg

Abel Berg died at age 65 from “strangulation of the bowels” perhaps from an old hernia, according to his death certificate. He was originally from Sweden and came to the Owyhees to mine. Acoording to the 1896 Blue Book, at an early age he followed the sea, until 1871 when he left Sweden for America, arriving in Sacramento where he worked on a ranch and a suger beet factory. The following year he struck out for Idaho, landing in Silver on December 27, 1872. He engaged in mining and became the principal owner of the Lone Tree group and several other mining properties. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Miners' Union. He never married and may not have had any relatives in the area.
