"Ruckenfigur" literally means the "back of a figure." The term was popularized by the 19th Century German romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich. I based this tryptich painting on a popular Christian hymn with words adapted from Saint Francis of Assisi. The central figure invites you to admire the awesome beauty of nature depicted here by the brilliant morning sky on the left, and a blazing sunset on the right. The Pinnacle and a swirl of birds capture the gaze of the viewer in the central panel. The verses of the hymn are on the reverse side of the winged panels.
