An old shagbark hickory on the neighboring Lutz Farm met its untimely demise during a lightning storm. The Lutz brothers cut and stacked the rounds of wood on the hillside just above the house and barn. I used a bit of artistic license and placed my studio prop axe in a stump to echo the graceful curve of the woodpile. Notice the white barn with a barn star in the distance. A small silverpoint sketch was drafted as a study for this final work.
