20 - Grounded

I spotted a dead crow on one of my hikes to State Gamelands in the Pine Swamp. I brought the bird back to my studio and developed this still life with ground cherries and ochre colored grasses. The painting is also a tribute to Andrew Wyeth's 1942 egg tempera titled "Winter Fields." The uncomfortable image conveys a part of the last stage in the voyage of life.
